social topic

Aliens, immigrants, illegal are a few of the names that are referring to undocumented residents. The reason I chose this specific topic is because I myself categorize in that unwanted group. This topic is important to me because my immigration status is the reason why I have limited opportunities. Immigration is just an obstacle to achieve the American dream .This topic will best represent me because it illustrate my struggles and my optimistic attitude. An impression I want this essay to demonstrate is that no matter where you come from or your immigration status if you determine enough you can successfully achieve all your goals.

paying for college

I am considering attending Lehman College, as my research continues on I have discover the cost of my college e is 5,520. In order to prepare to be ready for covering my college cost I need to begin saving. I also have to increase my GPA by 10 points in order to obtain scholarships and successfully that will cover my college cost. My first plan to pay college expenses is to obtaining a full scholarship to Lehman and if I am not eligible for a scholarship I would refer to plan B, which would be financial aid.  Even though am not counting on financial aid as my option to cover my college cost I would be getting 5,550 as federal Pell grant, my total aid available is 7,015  and at the end I would be receiving 1,495 to cover any expenses that I cross my path.

college essay number 1

                                                                                                                                  Cecilia Saavedra
                                                                                                                                      Ms.Tello
                                                                                                                                      College  program

Sitting on the chair patiently waiting for their arrival, gracefully walking down the idle wearing a big cheesy smile on their faces and high shoulders, as a cap and gown. I gaze around the auditorium looking for that familiar face there he was an average person with big dreams like Ghandi he was the change he wanted to see in the world and today he had proven that with determination you can accomplish many goals , make the impossible possible.
Today as am writing this essay, my pass to a brighter future, I recall the time we first came to United States. My parents migrated to the united states to persuade” The American Dream”, which meant a brighter future for my brother and I .My brother whom has experience the jobs many uneducated individuals do in order to make living he has set a goal to not be part of that group.
First year of high school like any other kid, he fooled at the beginning, but he never fooled around with his grades. His actions not only demonstrate his dedication toward his education but it also illustrates his characteristic as a responsible young adult. Late nights studying for a test or midterm paid of June 29, 2010, Luis Saavedra, the valedictorian of Harry’s Truman graduated with honors been the top of his class. Limited opportunities came across his path. College was a topic that my parent’s discus with him often, they were as if they were a broken record playing the same songs repeatedly, over and over. Eventually, those words became our motivation; those words of wisdom acquire in our hearts and mind. That motivation motivates my brother to apply to the tops colleges like Fordham University, Iona, and a few other including Lehman College.
The day came when he had to letter on his hands; he was as if a kid waiting for Christmas, that day came with huge open eyes, a big cheesy smile which is rare since he is always serious. He opened the letters and “Bang “, “Congratulations, we are happy to inform you have been accepted ….”Letter after letter the repetition of those words appear in every letter. Curiosity in our expressions were planted we were like Charlie and the chocolate factory waiting to see if  we had won the golden ticket, due to financial problems ,Lehman college offer a full scholarship thankfully he accepted.
The acceptation to Lehman College was just the beginning of a new chapter of his life. Freshman year of college my brother got involve with a group of undocumented students that like him are planning to be the change they want to see. The dream act has not yet been approved by congress; dream act will legalize undocumented students that are enrolling at least two years of college in order to fulfill their education. As a member of The Dream team inspired by The Dream Act, students at Lehman College marched and do things such as community service and fundraisers to demonstrate their enthusiasm and prove congress they are not giving up.
Dreams can be just a fantasy and yet dreams can become goals. An average boy had a dream as time goes by the dream became a goal up to this point that dreamer has accomplish so much in so little time. A dreamer that has inspired me and has made me realize that in life, you have fight for what you want .am looking forward to one day having children and telling them how a dreamer inspired me to do so much with my education. When the day comes can proudly say Luis Saavedra, my brother is the dreamer that never seems to give up and has proven me that all you need is a dream, inspiration and determination.

living at home

Would you rather live at home or live on a campus? College is an unforgettable experience that many individuals experience throughout their lives. There are many advantages and disadvantages when it comes to choosing whether to live at home or go away and live on a campus. Some advantages for living at home are, you will not have to pay rent; not worrying of ever been homesick and of course eating your mother delicious cooking. Some disadvantages include obeying and following your parent’s rules because you are still under their roof. Another disadvantage is having family members to close like little brother that are the age where they like to draw on everything including your paper work. On the other hand living on a campus, can be beneficial.  For some individuals when it comes to learning to be independent and to experience the real world it is good. In my case I prefer to live at home because am very attach to my family.

My suny college that best fits me

As we explore SUNY colleges around southern New York, I came across with several colleges that attracted my attention.  My first interest was Stony Brook University, Stony Brook seem to be one of the top colleges that enrolls my major as a language teacher.  My second choice was Old West Bury State University, not only those it matches with my criteria’s but have many appealing programs. My last choice was New Paltz State University, a remarkable college that has many programs to offer. Even though these colleges are extraordinary, my personality obligates me to persevere with CUNY colleges.

smart goal

In order to pursue my education, I need to succeed in graduating from high school. Smart goals help me create a plan to obtain admission for the college of my choice. I plan to succeed by obtaining admission to a four-year college.  I need to bring up my GPA by 10 points. By attending school every day, getting to school daily and to classes on time will benefit my GPA greatly.
By January 2012, I need to recover my English and global history credits to get on track after a disappointing junior year.  I need to participate more in class, focus more on my schoolwork, because community service became one of my major priorities this past year.
I am on track to receive a Regents diploma but my goal is to obtain an advanced Regents diploma. I can accomplish my target by achieving 84 or higher on the Algebra & Trigonometry Regents.  Increasing my GPA will be difficult for me since I went astray during my junior year. I plan to spend at least 30 minutes studying.

The cuny school that best fits me.

Brooklyn College, City College, Lehman College and York College are four colleges that have my major. The college that attracts my attention is Lehman College for many reasons, one of them are because my relatives attend to Lehman and because is closer to where I live whom make me feel secure and motivated. Secure because am aware of my surroundings and motivation comes from my parent.  Am still debating whether I want to major in fashion designer or as a language teacher but ether way Lehman offers me both of the majors. Many colleges can contribute with the major but I have heard excellent reviews on Lehman College and their magnificent programs they have to undecided student like me.

My realistic job

My realistic jobs are grouped in four categories literary, art, music, entertainment. The job that attracted my attention the most is clothing designer. Most fashion designers are located in New York which benefits me since I live in New York, it reflect my personality as a city girl. Fashion designers designed dresses shoes shirts for women men and children they use different color and express their personality in their design. A fashion designer salary is 31,484 to 91,780 a year. A job where you can create many new clothes is fascinating because not only you can be creative but also the satisfaction of looking at in individual’s wearing something that you design the feeling takes completely over you and it makes you feel proud of yourself.
